Make No Mistake...I Go by "Grandma" Even Though I Don't Look Like One!
One of the first things people always asked me when they found out I was going to be a grandmother was: "What do you want the baby to call you?" I always laughed at that question because I knew why they were asking me that question.
I'm someone that has built a brand that focuses on style and glamour. In my personal life, I am conscientious of my style, which is sometimes admired by some. I have a weakness for gorgeous pencil skirts and dresses and designer pumps. I'm always spotted in a great pair of shoes and cute handbags to boot!
Most people assumed that I would take on a name like "Glamma" or any other name that avoided the traditional use of the word "Grandma".
I had every intention of going by the name I have rightfully earned, "Grandma".
First of all, I don't look like a typical grandmother. So, the shock factor on people's face when I reveal to them that I am a grandma tickles me. LOL.
People that don't know my daughter and I usually mistake her for my sister and my grandson as my child.
You should see the look on their face when I tell them: "Nope, she's the mamma and I'm the grandma". It's priceless. For that reason alone, I will always go by "grandma". The compliments give me "life" for days! LOL!
Secondly, I earned that badge of honor - becoming a grandma and I love it.
I can't wait for my grandson to call me grandma or whatever variation of the name he wishes to call me. It will be his choice to call me grandma or not.
I love the fact that people expected some outlandish avoidance of the word grandma from me.
However, I ran into the word and the role, not away from it. Grandma.
This blog is dedicated to my first grandson, Karter B. Turner.
